Sixth Form
At TBS, our goal is to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and experiences they need to become ‘life-ready learners’, prepared to progress successfully along their chosen future pathways. To achieve this, we offer a broad and balanced curriculum that extends beyond academic qualifications. Our curriculum is shaped by several key factors: the interests of our students, the local labour market, opportunities for progression, and the expertise of our staff.
We recognise that students at TBS have diverse needs and aspirations. By offering a range of pathways including academic, vocational, or a blend of both, we ensure that every learner has the opportunity to shape their own future while continuing their education. All students follow a challenging full-time programme of study, designed to support their progression to the next stage. As a result, they leave TBS as confident young people, ready to succeed in whatever they choose to do.
In the Sixth Form, students select three main subjects from a range of A Level courses, BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificates, and Level 3 Applied Qualifications. All qualifications are two-year courses, completed by the end of the Summer Term in Year 13.
Choosing three Level 3 subjects provides students with a broad foundation to meet the entry requirements for Higher Education, while also allowing for in-depth learning. This structure ensures students have the capacity to engage in extracurricular activities, take on leadership roles, and opt into additional qualifications.
All students also have the opportunity to complete the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), which further develops their independent research and academic skills, or an additional qualification in Core Maths, which enhances problem-solving and statistical skills.
BPA
In September 2023, we launched Beaconsfield Performing Arts—a dedicated course for students passionate about a career in the performing arts. Those enrolled in the BPA programme study full-time over two years, working towards a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts Practice. This qualification is equivalent to three A Levels and is fully funded.
Students gain a broad and in-depth understanding of the performing arts, developing both practical skills and theoretical knowledge essential for a wide range of roles within the industry. They are based at Vivo Studios in Aylesbury four days a week and spend one day a week here at TBS.

Beaconsfield Town Football Academy
Last year, we proudly launched our Football Academy in partnership with Beaconsfield Town Football Club. This exciting opportunity allows students with a passion for football to train at the club during school hours, three times a week, as part of their timetabled lessons.
Alongside their football training, students also study three academic or vocational courses. This combination ensures they are well-prepared for a range of post-18 pathways—whether they pursue a career in football or the wider sports industry, or choose to move into a different field entirely.
